At least one of his kids apparently ran the monument works later on.

1870 census lists him as a brick mason and lists wife Christina, and children John Louis, William, Henry, and Louissa as being at home and confirms their ages. Lists him and Christina as being born in Bohemia, but children born in Michigan.
According to obituary, born in Feuchtwangen on 9/27/1822. Immegrated in 1852 to Monroe. Went to Revenna, Ohio, and then returned to Monroe in 1854. He was in Building and contracting business. In 1877 established the Eichbauer Monument Works on First Street and continued working there until his death. In 1856 he married A. Christina Schmelzer. His funeral was 7/2/1891 at 2PM at Trinity Lutheran Church.

"Left Cologne on March 12, 1852, by Rhine steamboat for Bremen, where he sailed for the US on a sailing vessel. family history does not record whether he had married Christina Maria Schmeltzer in Feuchtwangen before he left or whether she came to America after he was established. Leonhard came directly to Monroe, MI." quote from article in Observer, 20 Jul 1940.

OBITUARY: EICHBAUER Monroe Democrat 2 July 1891
The worldly career of another of Monroe's popular and prominent german citizens, George Leonard Eichbauer, was brought to a close Tuesday, June 30th. Mr. Eichbauer was born in Feuchtwangen, Bavaria, Sept. 27, 1822. In 1852 he immigrated to this country and came to Monroe. After a short stay he went to Revenna, O., from there he returned in 1854 and engaged in the building and contracting business. In this capacity he built many of the stores, churches and other building in the city. In 1877 he established the marble works on First street and continued in the business till his death. In 1856 he was married to Miss A. Christina Schmelzer, who, with three sons and one daughter, survive him. The deceased, through his extensive business, was known throughout the county as an industrious, hard working, honorable business man, and enjoyed the respect and friendship of all who knew him. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Trinity Lutheran church
