BIOGRAPHY: In 1884 Gottfried came to USA with Pauline (18 yrs) and Gustav (14 yrs) to avoid conscription into military. They worked on farms until they earned enough money to send for Julianna and the other children, Rudolph, Karl, Robert, and Emil. Upon immigration, Gottfried and Julianna hid Rudolph to avoid innoculation. To get Rudolph past authorities they hid baby Emil and used his papers. They settled in an area which became part of the city of Detroit. (Julia LORENZ EASLICK) Sometime after Julianna died in 1904 Gottfried moved to Kinderhook, NY and lived with daughter Pauline until he died in 1921. Bea LORENZ KECK remembers that Gottfried was scheduled to visit Decatur, IL for the first time in 1924 when she was in junior high school.
