DECATUR -- Lucille Marie Lorenz, 87, of Decatur died 3:24 a.m. Tuesday (S ept. 3 2002) in Imboden Creek Living Center .
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church with Pasto r Russell J. Weise and Pastor Wray A. Offermann officiating. Visitation w ill be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral H ome and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Luthera n Cemetery. Mrs. Lorenz was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Decatur, the daughter of Charles a nd Anna Mary Jendry Roarick. She was a cook at St. John's Lutheran Schoo l and Lutheran School Association. She was a member of St. John's Luthera n School and Women's Missionary League. She married Martin Lorenz on Jun e 2, 1935. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1976 .
Surviving are her son, David L. Lorenz and wife Barbara of Mississippi; d aughter, Mary Ann Gerhard and husband Ronald of Decatur; brother, Raymon d Roarick and wife Mary of Fredricksburg, Texas; sister, Norma Bartczak o f Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Michelle Glass and husband Jim of St. Loui s, Mo.; Scott Gerhard and wife TJ of Cincinnati, Ohio; Clayton Gerhard o f Decatur; Kristin Baldwin of Reno, Nev.; Brian Lorenz of Reno; great-gra ndchildren, Casey Gerhard and Jake Baldwin .
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Had breast cancer c 1975, uterine cancer c 1978; breast cancer metatisize d into her brain, kidneys, and liver. She remained very active till th e end, ignored her cancer and lived life to the fullest. She was a cance r survivor of 26 yrs.
Ella was alway a great friend, loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt. He r hobby was crocheting; she made afghans for all the members of her famil y and many, many friends.

Ella M. Koeppen Lorenz, age 85, formerly of Mattoon, died Saturday, Aug . 18, 2001, at her home in Arden, N.C.
She was born July 24, 1916, in Mattoon, the daughter of the late Harry an d Lulu (Matz) Koeppen. She married Victor 'Vic' Lorenz in Appleton on Apr il 2, 1938. She was a resident of Milwaukee for 45 years, Placida, Florid a for 20 years, and Arden, North Carolina for one year. Ella was a membe r of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cape Haye, Fla.
Survivors include: her husband, Victor Lorenz; one daughter, Sally Loren z and her husband, Woody Coche, of Arden; four sisters, Leone Fermanich a nd her husband, Carl, of Marietta, Ga., Rosella Larsen and her husband, L ouis, of Bowler, Florence Reinert of Tilleda, and Lulu Wege of Bowler. Sh e was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Elmer and Irwin Koeppe n, and a sister, Alvina Kowalke.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23, at noon at St. John' s Lutheran Church, Mattoon, with the Rev. Jeff Krueger officiating. Inter nment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Township of Hutchins. The fam ily will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the c hurch.

BIOGRAPHY: She had epilepsy and was a source of tension in her family. O nce she was standing on the roof of their house flapping her arms lik e a chicken. Another time Bea and Ruth woke up to find her standing ove r them with a butcher knife. She was raped by an older brother of her gi rl friend who lived next door.
